What a $220 pair of sneakers pays on StockX, GOAT, eBay and more
Updated
Fees as listed on each marketplace's own pages on 10/22/2026. Fees change, so check before you list.
You sold the pair for $220. The number that matters is what lands in your account.
Sneaker and electronics resellers juggle several marketplaces at once, and each one takes its cut in a different place: a seller fee, a processing fee, a fixed fee, sometimes a payout fee. We ran one example through the official fee pages. The math is below so you can check it yourself.
The example
One pair of sneakers, sold for $220. The buyer pays shipping. We left out your shipping label cost, sales tax, ads and returns, because those depend on you. This is an illustration, not a quote.
StockX
StockX charges a transaction fee that depends on your seller level, plus 3% payment processing. At Level 1 the transaction fee is 9%. At Level 5 it is 7%. Levels are based on your sales in a quarter.
- Level 1: 9% of $220 is $19.80, and 3% is $6.60. You keep $193.60.
- Level 5: 7% is $15.40, and processing is the same $6.60. You keep $198.00.
Payout fees depend on the method. The StockX payout page lists no fee for PayPal. A debit card payout costs 2%, with a $1.95 minimum and a $9.95 maximum. On $193.60 that is $3.87, so you would end up with $189.73.
eBay
eBay's fee for men's and women's athletic shoes is 8% when the sale is $150 or more, and no per-order fee applies at that price. Under $150 it is 13.6%. At $220: 8% is $17.60, and you keep $202.40. eBay lists no fee for a standard payout to your checking account. An express payout, which arrives in about 30 minutes, costs a flat $2.
For electronics, the page doesn't name a category. Its general rate is 13.6% plus a per-order fee of $0.40 on orders over $10. On a $400 console that is $54.40 plus $0.40, so you keep $345.20, assuming your item falls under that general row. Check your category before you trust this number.
TikTok Shop
TikTok Shop's referral fee for shoes and for phones and electronics is 6%, and TikTok says that fee covers everything except shipping and tax, so there is no separate processing charge. At $220 that is $13.20, which leaves $206.80. A bank withdrawal costs $0.05, so you end up with $206.75. TikTok calculates the fee on what the customer pays, including shipping they pay, so the fee can be a bit higher and your take-home a bit lower.
On a $400 electronics sale, 6% is $24.00 and you would keep $376.00 before the $0.05 withdrawal.
GOAT
GOAT charges a 9.5% commission if your seller rating is 90 or higher, plus a seller fee that depends on where you are. In the US the seller fee is $0 if you drop off and $5 if you use prepaid shipping. Cancellations push the commission up, as high as 25%.
- Prepaid shipping: 9.5% of $220 is $20.90, plus $5. You keep $194.10.
- Drop-off: you keep $199.10.
Cashing out is where GOAT costs more. ACH and PayPal cash outs carry a 2.9% fee, and you need more than $25 in earnings to cash out. On $194.10 that is $5.63, so you end up with $188.47. GOAT doesn't list electronics, so it's left out of the console example.
Whatnot
Whatnot changed its fees on September 21, 2026. New and smaller sellers pay 8% commission on the item price, and the rate drops as your sales over four weeks go up. Payment processing is separate: 2.9% of the whole order plus $0.30.
- At $220: 8% is $17.60 and processing is $6.68. You keep $195.72. Shipping and tax the buyer pays raise the processing fee a little.
- Whatnot's payout pages list no fee for sending your balance to your bank.
On a $400 console the same math leaves $356.10.
What the numbers say, and what they don't
On this one sale, the gap between the lowest take-home (GOAT with prepaid shipping, after cashing out) and the highest (TikTok Shop) is about $18 on a $220 pair, and TikTok's end of that is a best case. A gap like that adds up over a hundred sales. It does not tell you where the pair sells fastest or where returns hurt most. A lower fee on a marketplace where the pair sits for two months is not a win.
Three habits that help:
- Run your real numbers, not a rounded guess. A $5 minimum fee or a per-order charge can matter on cheaper items.
- Check your seller level. On StockX, moving from Level 1 to Level 5 saved $4.40 on this sale.
- Pick your payout method on purpose. A StockX debit card payout cost $3.87 here, and GOAT's cash out cost $5.63. PayPal showed no fee on StockX's page.
